As part of the “Dominican Diaspora Gives Back“ programme, the non-political dominican-diaspora.com social network, has organised a Christmas Drive for the less fortunate children of Dominica.
Local institutions `House of Hope` and `Operation Youth Quake` have been singled out for assistance, in addition to 100 children who have been identified from various communities in Dominica.
A number of items have already been donated by overseas based DD members, but to reach the goal of ensuring that each of the children and youth receive a present this Christmas, the organisers are appealing to the general public (DD members and non-members) to make a contribution to this charitable cause.
According to Natasha Henderson, executive Director of the DD network, “This Christmas Drive is a pilot effort of what will be an ongoing campaign to assist local charities in Dominica. In the future we hope to mobilise more of our members based in the various parts of the world as we seek not only to bridge the gap between `Dominicans who have stayed and those who have left`, but also to make a substantial contribution to improving the social scene of our homeland, Dominica.“
The local drop-off day is scheduled for Monday, December 20th at the Alliance Française de la Dominique, between the hours of 12 noon and 5:30 pm. The public will be greeted by organisers of the drive, in an ambiance of Christmas cheer. Donations of toys, games, clothing, shoes, books, stationary, dried foods, tinned stuff, pampers, toiletries etc would be appreciated.
