they also learn about business. They get to meet and make new friends, have fun and go on trips of interest.

The facilitators are a small group of highly committed Black men who have remained consistent.  They receive no funding from the local authority and feel that to do so would compromise and ‘water down’ the programme.  They are self financing, but will only accept support on their terms, so for example this year’s programme took place at the New Arts Exchange building in Nottingham, they were permitted to use the brand new premises so as to give the architects and site managers feedback in how they experienced using the building.

I am very impressed with what has been achieved here – I particularly like the fact that the group is autonomous with no ‘strings attached.’

The activities include;

• “Making a raise” – our guide to making money in the future·
• Who am I? –  A brief introduction to Afrikan History·
• The importance of nutrition, health and physical well-being·
• Creative writing and the performing arts·
• Heroes and Sheroes·
• Afrikan contribution to science inc. Space Centre trip·
• The history of rhythm – from ragtime to grime·
• Outdoor pursuits and sports for fun·
• Meet the professions – interactive careers guidance·

Plus much, much more… ‘Kulture College’ took place between 28th July – 3rd August from 9.30 – 4.30.The cost for Kulture College per young person was £30 inclusive of all trips –

Perhaps this programme is something we can all think about organising for future school holiday’s for members of DD around the UK and beyond if members based in the US, the Caribbean or anywhere.
