While civil servants being paid meagre monthly salaries ranging between 500 and 600 Eastern Caribbean dollars are being sent home as a sacrifice for the greater good of the national economy, we have seen ministers of government and parliamentarians in Dominica receive an increase in their salary by an average of fifty-three (53) percent.
On the “bright” side, since job prospects are now the scarcest in
Dominica in years, these civil servants have more time to spend at home
with their children, even though they now may not be able to provide
for them.
This begs the question; don’t we lead by example anymore?
For the greater good of the Dominican economy, taxes are being
squeezed out of every orifice of residents on the island-at the port,
at the supermarket, at the store, at the pump, at the utility company
and at year end!
Making these observations may result in me being
painted different colours. However, I still remain Jillian H. Jno
Charles, enfant deux moun pauvre; and that does not change the facts,
FACTS ARE STUBBORN THINGS!
Considering the current trend in Dominica, making these observations may even result in me being deemed guilty of treason.If, God forbid, it comes down to this and I have to be apprehended, if given a heads up I will voluntarily turn myself in.
