There are still folk out there, who won’t invest in their personal and professional development and as a consequence their potential progress in life and business suffers greatly!
Recently I was told about a business woman Ray, who was in the retail fashion trade, and had been for over 20yrs.
She’d worked really hard at building up her business, but when the business ran into difficulties she was ill prepared to take shrewd and strategic decisions to avoid further losses. The store was making no real profit over a period of time, and Ray continued pumping in money from her personal reserves to prop up the failing business. She continued to purchase new stock – yet could not sell existing stock. She hoped for an ‘upturn’ in the economy, but sadly overtime her propping up the business could not be sustained and she ran into further difficulties as the business overheads costs continued to rise.
She eventually had to give up the store. This of course left her with a great deal of stock which she was reluctant to sell to other retailers, as they are offering less than cost price for her merchandise and she was of course fearful of making huge losses on her stock.
She considered opening another store but this too presented challenges in terms of start up and marketing costs. Readers might think why not try e bay or internet marketing to get rid of the stock, but sadly Ray has spent little time in diversifying her activities and investing in learning new skills. She has spent all of her efforts in traditional retail sales activities.
You can see where I’m going with this can’t you?
Had she invested in some good professional business coaching, advice and guidance Ray would have been better prepared to take the necessary business decisions. In business, no matter what it is, you need to invest in training and development so that you are equipped strategically to take shrewd and good business decisions. You need to be prepared to take objective and dispassionate advice and guidance on how to develop your business and your activities so that you are in the best possible position to maximise on the goods and services you provide, resulting in operating your business to its fullest potential.
